Route Planner Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your installation and use of the Route Planner add-in for Microsoft Excel ("the Add-in"), published by Bosau Digital LLC and made by Sven Bosau, operating Python & VBA at pythonandvba.com ("we", "us", or "our"). They supplement our general Terms and Conditions; where the two differ in relation to the Add-in, these Terms apply. By installing or using the Add-in, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not install or use the Add-in.
1. The Add-in
The Add-in brings multi-stop route optimization to Microsoft Excel, powered by Google Maps. You select a column of stops, click Optimize route, and the Add-in writes the best visiting order with distance and travel time per stop next to your data, plus a link to open the optimized route in Google Maps. The Add-in works in Excel on Windows, Mac, the web (Microsoft 365 or Office 2021 and later), and iPad.
2. What You Need to Use It
The Add-in is free to install from Microsoft AppSource. To use it, you must provide:
- A valid Route Planner license key, a purchase made from pythonandvba.com; and
- Your own Google Maps Platform API key, with the Maps JavaScript API and the Routes API enabled and billing configured on your own Google account.
3. License
Upon a valid purchase, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Add-in on the number of installations permitted by your license (the activation limit shown at the time of purchase and in the product documentation), subject to these Terms. The license is personal to you and may not be transferred, sublicensed, resold, or assigned to any other individual or entity.
The license is verified online. If our license server cannot be reached, the Add-in continues to work for a short offline grace period and then re-verifies once you are back online.
4. Your Google Maps API Key and Costs
The Add-in uses your own Google Maps Platform API key, so you remain in control of your Google usage and billing. You are solely responsible for:
- Obtaining, configuring, and securing your Google Maps API key;
- All charges, quotas, and usage limits associated with your Google account; and
- Complying with the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service and other applicable Google terms.
We do not set, control, or receive any part of Google's pricing, and we are not responsible for any costs you incur through your use of Google Maps.
5. Accuracy of Results
Stop orders, distances, and travel times returned by the Add-in are estimates provided by Google Maps and depend on Google's data, the stops you enter, live traffic conditions, the travel mode selected, and other factors. The "optimized" order is Google's best calculated suggestion, not a guaranteed optimum. Results are provided for convenience only, may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unavailable for a given route, and must not be solely relied upon for navigation, safety-critical, legal, financial, billing, or dispatch decisions. Where accuracy matters, you should verify results independently.
6. Prohibited Uses
You may not:
- Share, distribute, resell, or redistribute the Add-in or your license key to third parties
- Allow others to use the Add-in under your license
- Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the Add-in
- Modify, adapt, or create derivative works based on the Add-in
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with the license validation or any security feature of the Add-in
- Use the Add-in for any unlawful purpose
- Use the Add-in in a manner that violates any applicable laws or the terms of service of any third-party platform it relies on (including Microsoft and Google)
7. Third-Party Services and Platforms
The Add-in requires and integrates with third-party services, including Google Maps and Microsoft Excel / Microsoft 365. Use of the Add-in may require you to hold your own account and API credentials with those services and to comply with their respective terms. We are not responsible for the availability, pricing, accuracy, or terms of any third-party service, nor for any costs you may incur through their use.
The Add-in is distributed through Microsoft AppSource and is subject to Microsoft's applicable marketplace terms. These Terms are the license terms that govern the Add-in and, to the extent permitted, apply in place of any default store license terms.
8. Refunds
Please see our Refund Policy for full details. In summary, we offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on the Route Planner license. The Add-in itself is free to install; the refund applies to the license purchased from pythonandvba.com. Charges you incur with Google for your own API usage are not refundable by us.
9. Intellectual Property
The Add-in and all related content and materials are the intellectual property of Bosau Digital LLC. Purchasing a license does not transfer any ownership or intellectual property rights to you. You may not use our name, logo, or branding without prior written consent.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Add-in is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Add-in will be error-free, uninterrupted, accurate, or compatible with every system configuration, nor do we warrant the availability, accuracy, or results of any third-party service it relies on.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Bosau Digital LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages (including loss of data, loss of profits, business interruption, or costs incurred with third-party services such as Google) arising from your use of or inability to use the Add-in, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability arising from any matter related to these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Route Planner license.
12. Termination
This license terminates automatically if you breach these Terms. On termination, you must stop using the Add-in and remove it. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will continue to apply.
13. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Add-in after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Governing Law
The Add-in is operated by Bosau Digital LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of New Mexico, United States. These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Mexico, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be sought to be resolved through good-faith negotiation in the first instance.
