For Excel on Windows, Mac, and the web.
A few cells away from work.
The classic minesweeper game, with a very familiar grid.
Add a game sheet
Choose a difficulty and create a new worksheet. Your existing sheets stay as they are.
Follow the numbers
Reveal safe cells. Flag the mines. Clear the board to win. Your first click is always safe.
Back to business
Pause and switch to your work, or delete the game sheet. Break over. Spreadsheet still open.
Free to play.
Easy to add.
No sign-up, payment, or license key. Just add CellSweeper from inside Excel.
- Open a workbook in Excel.
- Go to Home → Add-ins → More Add-ins.
- Search for CellSweeper and select Add.
- Pick a difficulty, then select Create new worksheet. Time for a little break.
Some Excel versions use Insert → Get Add-ins instead. Keep the CellSweeper side panel open while you play.
A few quick answers.
Is it really free?
Yes. All three difficulty levels are free. No trial timer, paid upgrade, or CellSweeper account. You just need access to a supported version of Excel.
Will it change my work?
CellSweeper creates a separate game sheet. It does not overwrite your existing sheets. Delete the game sheet whenever you want, just like any other worksheet.
Can I save a game for later?
Yes. Pause the game and save your workbook as an .xlsx or .xlsm file. Open the workbook and CellSweeper again to continue. Use Pause to stop the clock before you leave.
Which Excel versions does it work with?
Excel on Windows, Mac, and the web. A current Microsoft 365 version is recommended. It needs ExcelApi 1.12 support and an internet connection to load. If your company blocks Office add-ins, your administrator may need to allow it.
Do I need macros? Does it upload my spreadsheet?
No macros needed. The game runs locally, and CellSweeper does not send your workbook contents to our servers. There is no account to create.
How do I play?
Choose Reveal in the side panel, then click a covered cell. Each number tells you how many mines are in the eight cells around it. Switch to Flag to mark a suspected mine. Reveal every safe cell to win. Your first reveal is safe; after that, watch your step.
