CutePlots Add-in Privacy Policy

This document applies to CutePlots Add-in for Microsoft Excel and its browser chart viewer, published by Bosau Digital LLC ("we", "us", or "our"), which operates Python & VBA. Bosau Digital LLC is the controller of the personal data described here. For privacy questions, email contact@pythonandvba.com.

1. Worksheet data

CutePlots reads only the selected or previously connected range to render charts in your device's web runtime. It does not send worksheet values, labels, chart titles, or exported files to our server. It writes sample data to a new worksheet only when requested and inserts or replaces pictures when requested. Pictures contain their source address and style in alternative text.

2. Browser previews and exports

Chart data is encoded in the fragment of browser preview and share URLs. Share links are snapshots, do not synchronize with Excel, and cannot be revoked. There is no chart-upload service or chart database. Share links and the add-in's links to our pages go through short redirect links on pythonandvba.com (pythonandvba.com/go/...). A redirect forwards the browser to its destination and does not store the chart payload. It can record click information, such as IP address, browser, referring page and request time. The chart fragment is not sent in the HTTP request. URL fragments are not sent to the hosting server in the HTTP request, but the browser, its history, extensions, and anyone receiving the full URL may access them. Downloaded HTML includes the underlying chart data, drawing, font, and local hover code. It can be opened offline without network requests. Open HTML file reads the embedded chart data locally; it does not upload the file or run scripts supplied by that file. SVG and PNG contain the visible chart; SVG also includes hover labels as text metadata. You control where these files and links are saved or shared.

3. Local storage and licensing

Browser storage holds style preferences and named style presets (without chart data), a random installation identifier, the license key you enter, and the last successful validation time. The installation identifier contains no name, email, or hardware information, but it is tied to your license once you enter a key, so it is not anonymous. For a license check we send the key, installation identifier, and add-in version over HTTPS to api.pythonandvba.com. Our service also receives normal connection information such as IP address and request time. This information is used to validate access, operate licensing, and prevent abuse. No license check is needed for free use.

Our server logs, which include the IP address, are deleted after 14 days (90 days for warnings and errors). The installation identifiers registered to your license are kept with your license record (when each was first seen and last used) for as long as the license exists. If a check fails, we keep the license key, IP address, approximate country, installation identifier and add-in version for up to 90 days to detect misuse of keys.

4. Hosting and other services

The hosting service receives standard connection information when loading the application. Microsoft supplies Office.js and processes information under its own privacy terms. CutePlots does not include advertising, analytics trackers, or a third-party chart CDN. When you follow links to WordPress documentation, legal pages, the support form, account service or checkout, those websites receive the usual connection information and may use their own analytics or payment services. Our website privacy policy applies to those visits and purchases. We do not sell your personal data.

Bosau Digital LLC is based in the United States, so the data described in this policy is processed in the United States and/or in the countries where our service providers operate. Where personal data of EEA or UK residents is transferred internationally, we and our service providers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or Standard Contractual Clauses.

5. Retention and rights

Local preferences remain until you clear the add-in's browser storage. Remove license clears its locally stored key and verification; it does not erase purchase records or server-side licensing records. We retain purchase and licensing records as needed to deliver access, handle support and legal obligations. Server logs are deleted after 14 days (90 days for warnings and errors), and failed license checks after 90 days.

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we rely on these legal bases: contract performance to validate your license and deliver your purchase; legitimate interests to enforce license limits, prevent misuse of keys and keep our services secure; and legal obligation to keep purchase records as tax and accounting law requires.

In the EEA or UK you have the right to request access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and a copy in a machine-readable format (portability), and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email contact@pythonandvba.com to exercise these rights; we will respond within 30 days. Some records may need to be retained by law. Your chart data never reaches us, so there is none for us to return or delete.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EEA you can find your national authority through the European Data Protection Board (edpb.europa.eu). We would welcome the chance to resolve your concern first, so please consider contacting us before you do.

6. Security and changes

We use HTTPS for network communications and limit transmitted information to what the service needs. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Policy updates will be published here with a revised effective date. See also our website privacy policy.

7. Children's privacy

CutePlots is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
