What is TextBay Inbox?

Twilio runs the phone-network side and charges less than a cent per text in the US. What it does not give you is somewhere to read and answer those texts. TextBay Inbox is that window, and it is free.

Twilio by itself
  • Made for developers who write code
  • Texts arrive as rows in a technical log
  • Answering means building your own app first
  • Whether it arrived is buried in the logs
Twilio with TextBay Inbox
  • Made for anyone who answers customers
  • One conversation per person, like a phone
  • Install it, paste two values, pick your number
  • Delivered or not, under every message

What you can do

Built to be trusted with a token

Pasting an Auth Token into an app deserves a straight answer about where it ends up. TextBay Inbox has no server, no account and no telemetry, so there is nowhere for your data to go except Twilio itself.

Encrypted on this PCCredentials are saved locally, encrypted with your Windows account, and masked on screen behind an eye toggle.
Sent only to TwilioYour token goes to Twilio's own API over HTTPS and nowhere else. No middleman, no proxy, no server of mine.
Delete means deleteClearing a thread asks what you meant: hide it in the app, or permanently remove the records from your Twilio account.
Honest errorsEvery failure shows a plain-English line plus Twilio's own code and text, with a link to Twilio's page for it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. No trial period, no locked features, no account, no ads. You keep paying Twilio for your number and messages exactly as before; TextBay Inbox itself costs nothing.
Yes. TextBay Inbox is a desktop client for your own Twilio account: it signs in with your Account SID and Auth Token and works with your numbers. If you do not have an account yet, Twilio's free trial is enough to try everything.
Receiving works normally. Sending only reaches numbers you have verified in the Twilio console (Phone Numbers → Verified Caller IDs), and Twilio prepends its trial notice to every outgoing message. Those are Twilio's trial rules, not the app's; TextBay Inbox names the error (21608) in plain English when you hit it.
No. That is the point. TextBay Inbox asks Twilio's API for new messages every few seconds, so nothing has to reach your PC from outside: no webhook to write, no public URL, no tunnel, nothing to host or keep running.
On your PC, encrypted with your Windows account (DPAPI), and masked on screen by default. They are sent to Twilio's own API over HTTPS and nowhere else; the app has no server, no account system and no telemetry. Details in the privacy policy.
Whatever Twilio charges you today: their normal per-message rate for your country and number type, billed by Twilio to your Twilio balance. TextBay Inbox adds nothing on top, and the Settings page shows your current balance so you can keep an eye on it.
No, TextBay Inbox sends plain text messages. The number list shows what each of your numbers supports, but sending is SMS only.
Not in this app - TextBay Inbox is an inbox: one conversation at a time, like a phone. For campaigns on the same Twilio account, TextBay is the paid app that adds contacts, mail-merge placeholders, scheduling and WhatsApp. If you would rather send from your own mobile number with no Twilio at all, QuickText does that through an Android phone.
One account and one number at a time; switching is a dropdown in Settings. A number that lives on a subaccount can be entered manually.
The app asks which of two things you mean. Hide them here is a view filter: the messages stay in your Twilio account and "Show everything" brings them back. Delete from Twilio permanently removes the records from your account, logs included, and cannot be undone.
No. TextBay Inbox needs Windows 10 or 11. It does run inside a Windows virtual machine on a Mac (Parallels, VMware Fusion, UTM).
When one conversation at a time is not enough

TextBay sends to the whole list

TextBay Inbox reads and answers texts on one number, free, forever. TextBay is the paid app that runs on the same Twilio account and the same number — for the day you need to reach two hundred people instead of one.

  • Contacts with lists, custom fields, and CSV, Excel or vCard import
  • Personalized campaigns with mail-merge placeholders and spintax
  • Reusable templates, scheduling and paced sending
  • MMS and WhatsApp, not only SMS
  • Opt-out handling, a block list, and delivery history per campaign
  • The same inbox you already have here
