What is TextBay?

Twilio runs the phone-network side and charges less than a cent per text in the US. But Twilio by itself is a toolbox for programmers. TextBay is the friendly app on top of it.

Twilio by itself
  • Made for developers who write code
  • Sending to a list means programming
  • Replies hide in a technical log
  • Problems show up as error codes
Twilio with TextBay
  • Made for busy business owners
  • Pick people, write, press Send
  • Replies land in a simple inbox
  • Problems explained in plain English

What you need

Three things. The whole setup takes about ten minutes, and the app walks you through it.

A Windows PCWindows 10 or 11
A free Twilio accountSign-up takes five minutes. You only pay for what you send
A phone numberRent one from Twilio for about a dollar a month

What you can do

Texting lots of people in the US? One form first.

US phone companies want to know who sends bulk texts. You register once with Twilio, then you are set. Three ways to do it:

Most common

A normal local number

Register your business once in the Twilio console. Twilio calls this 10DLC. It takes a few days, and small senders without a tax ID can register as a sole proprietor.

Cheapest option: the number is about $1 a month.
Simplest

A toll-free number

The +1 8xx numbers skip 10DLC. You fill in one verification form instead, wait a few days, done. Often the easiest way for a small business.

One form. That is the whole registration.
For later

A short code

The 5 or 6 digit numbers banks use. Fastest sending there is, but it costs hundreds of dollars a month. Worth it only at serious volume.

TextBay supports it whenever you get there.

And TextBay holds your hand through it. The app checks your Twilio account and tells you, in plain words, whether you are registered and approved. A built-in learning center explains each option in two minutes, and the documentation has step-by-step guides. Texting outside the US, or on WhatsApp? Skip this whole section.

Your data stays yours

TextBay has no server in the middle. Your contacts and messages live on your PC and go only to Twilio. We never see them.

Locked on your PCYour Twilio password is stored encrypted on your own computer and sent only to Twilio itself.
Everything in one folderContacts and history live in one folder on your PC, with daily safety copies. Even uninstalling keeps them safe.
Opt-outs handled for youWhen someone replies STOP, they are blocked automatically and never get another text from you.
No mystery errorsWhen something fails, the app tells you what happened and what to do next, in plain English.

Pay once. That is the whole pricing.

TextBay costs $100, one time. No subscription. Twilio bills the messages separately, usually less than a cent each in the US.

For scale: sending 1,000 texts in the US costs you a few dollars with Twilio. TextBay never adds a per-message fee.

Not the right fit? Maybe a sibling is.

TextBay is for business texting through Twilio. If that is not you, one of these fits better. Same maker, same simple style.

Frequently asked questions

TextBay replaced it, and it is no longer sold. Twilio Blaster was the same idea inside a spreadsheet: your own Twilio account, your own numbers, sent from Excel. TextBay does that as a proper Windows app and adds what a spreadsheet never did well: replies come back into an inbox you answer from, contacts live in lists you reuse, opt-outs are handled for you, and every message shows its delivery status in plain English. Setup is two values pasted once, with no macros and no Excel version to worry about.

If you already bought Twilio Blaster it keeps working, and its documentation stays online. One thing to know before you switch: TextBay is Windows only, so it will not run on a Mac the way the Excel template did, although it does work in a Windows virtual machine.
Yes. Twilio provides the number and carries the messages; TextBay is the app you use on top. Creating a Twilio account takes about five minutes, and the getting started guide shows every click.
Yes. $100 once, yours forever, updates included. The only ongoing cost is what Twilio charges for the messages themselves.
Twilio's normal rates: in the US, less than a cent per text, plus about $1 a month for the number. TextBay adds nothing on top and shows you the estimated cost before every send.
US phone companies want bulk senders to register once, so they can block spammers. You do it in the Twilio console; it takes a few days. TextBay shows your status in plain words, and the documentation walks you through it. Texting outside the US? It does not apply to you.
Through Twilio's official WhatsApp Business channel. You register a WhatsApp sender once, and TextBay handles the rest, including WhatsApp's rules about templates. Want to send from your personal WhatsApp instead? That is what SendCommander is for.
Yes. Twilio trials can only text numbers you have verified with Twilio, and they add a trial note to each message. Good for testing on your own phone; upgrade the Twilio account when you go real.
Message people who agreed to hear from you, and TextBay handles the rest: STOP replies block that person automatically, and one click adds the "Reply STOP to opt out." line to your message. The opt-out guide has the details.
On your own PC, in one folder. Messages go straight from your PC to Twilio; we never see them. The only thing that ever reaches us is the license check. Details in the privacy policy.
No. TextBay needs Windows 10 or 11. It does run inside a Windows virtual machine on a Mac (Parallels, VMware Fusion, UTM).
There is a contact form right inside the app, and the documentation covers everything step by step. I reply myself, usually within a business day.

Send and receive your business texts from your PC

Install it, connect your Twilio account, and send. Your first 20 messages need no licence, so you can try the whole thing on your own numbers before you decide.
