This guide takes you from installing Audit Tickmarks to your first marked-up schedule. It takes about five minutes.
1. Install the add-in #
- In Excel, go to Home > Add-ins (or Insert > Get Add-ins), search for Audit Tickmarks, and click Add.
- An Audit Tickmarks button appears on the Home tab; click it to open the task pane.
2. Try it on the demo sheet #
- In the pane, click Insert demo sheet. You get a small cash reconciliation with real formulas and one deliberately odd number.
- Select the “Per bank” figures and click the ✓ mark: every selected row gets a tick in the cell to its right.
- Select the marked cells and click Remove tick marks from selection to take them off again.
3. Choose a placement #
- Cell to the right: the mark goes next to your data. Cells that already hold marks get the new one appended; anything else is never overwritten.
- In the cell: for dedicated tick columns. Formulas are never touched.
- Attach to value (Pro): the mark joins the number format, so “125,400.50” displays as “125,400.50 ✓” while the value and every formula stay intact.
4. Enter your license key (Pro) #
- Your license key is in the purchase email from pythonandvba.com. If you do not have one yet, you can get it here.
- In the task pane, open the menu (top left), go to Settings > License, paste the key, and click Save and check. The badge shows Valid and the header chip flips to PRO.
5. Document the review #
- Type your initials in the Sign-off card and click Sign off: the selected cell gets “SB 04-Sep-26” style initials and date.
- Insert legend sheet explains every mark to whoever opens the file next.
- List open items scans the workbook for every unresolved ✗, ?, and 🚩 and writes a hyperlinked report sheet.
Having trouble? #
The pane explains every problem in plain language, and the docs cover the common ones. If you are stuck, contact support.
