Select the cells you are reviewing, then click a mark in the pane. Where the mark lands depends on the Placement setting.
The three placements #
- Cell to the right (default): one mark per selected row, in the column right of your selection. A target cell that already holds marks gets the new one appended; a cell holding anything else is skipped and reported, never overwritten.
- In the cell: the mark replaces the cell’s value, meant for dedicated tick columns. Formula cells are always skipped. Cells that already hold marks append instead of replacing.
- Attach to value (Pro): the mark joins the cell’s number format. See Attach marks to values.
Several marks on one cell #
Click a second mark while the same cell is targeted and it lines up after the first: “✓” becomes “✓ F”, then “✓ F ▲”. Image marks do the same, side by side on the cell. This is the classic combination stack (verified AND footed), and removal treats the whole combination as marks.
Color, bold, and size #
The six standard audit colors are free; the custom color picker is Pro. Bold and the size options apply to every text mark you place. A custom mark can carry its own color, which wins over the palette color.
Removing marks #
Remove tick marks from selection clears everything the add-in knows how to recognize:
- Cells that hold only marks (single marks, combinations like “✓ F”, and sign-offs like “SB 04-Sep-26”) are cleared.
- Text ending in symbol marks (“Balance ✓”) has the marks stripped off. Question marks and exclamation marks at the end of ordinary text are left alone, so “Open item?” survives.
- Marks attached to values are removed from the number format, restoring the original format exactly.
- Image marks and number badges sitting on the selected cells are deleted.
Formulas are never touched by any of this.
Caps that protect you #
Text marks work on up to 2,000 cells per click and image marks on up to 300, checked before anything loads. Selecting a whole column gets you a clear message instead of a frozen Excel.
