Frequently asked questions

Excel 2010 and later, including Microsoft 365, 32-bit and 64-bit. It needs the desktop Excel on Windows. Excel in the browser and Excel for Mac are not supported.

No. MyToolBelt is Windows only.

Yes, any time. Buy a license key, open the MyToolBelt tab in Excel, click Upgrade, paste the key. No reinstall. Everything unlocks in place.

Only for the AI features. Get one at platform.openai.com. OpenAI bills you for what you use, separately. The Python and formatting tools need no key.

The cells you select go to OpenAI, using your key, the same as typing them into ChatGPT. The Python and formatting tools send nothing anywhere.

Select a range and click Notebook or DataFrame. You get a .ipynb or .py file with your data already loaded in Pandas. You can also run your own Python files from Excel. It works with whatever Python you already have installed.

Three of your own.

Copilot is $30 a month ($360 a year), needs Microsoft 365, and has no Python and no tickmarks. MyToolBelt is $69 once and has AI, Python and formatting in one. If you only want an AI helper, Copilot is good. If you also want Python and formatting without a monthly bill, MyToolBelt is the better fit.

You can, but you copy the data out, paste it into the chat, wait, and copy the answer back. MyToolBelt does it inside Excel: select a cell, ask, and the answer appears there.

MyToolBelt uses OpenAI, so the cells you select do leave your machine. If you need AI that runs fully offline, have a look at XLlama. It runs open-source models on your own computer through Ollama.
