What kinds of PDFs does it work with?

Both digital (text-based) PDFs and scanned (image-based) PDFs. Digital PDFs are processed by a fast text-extraction engine. Scanned PDFs are processed by a built-in AI vision model running on your CPU. The app automatically detects which type each page is and picks the right engine.
What languages does the OCR support?

No language picker is needed; the AI vision model reads pixels, not characters. It handles English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, and most Latin-script European languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish) out of the box. Accuracy on heavily accented characters is slightly lower than on plain English. Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, and Cyrillic scripts are not supported in this release.
Why not use Excel's built-in PDF import (Data > Get Data > From PDF)?

Excel’s built-in PDF import is great if you have Excel 2019, 2021, or Microsoft 365 on Windows AND your PDF is digital. It does not work with scanned PDFs (no OCR), it requires opening the Power Query editor and manually selecting tables for every single PDF, and it has no batch mode. PDF2Excel works on any Excel version, handles scans, and processes batches with one click.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 (64-bit) or later. The installer is around 7 MB, plus a one-time ~250 MB AI runtime download on first launch. After install, the app uses around 650 MB on disk because the AI models and everything they need to run offline are bundled. No GPU needed; everything runs on your CPU. We recommend 4 GB of RAM. macOS and Linux are not supported at this time.
Does PDF2Excel use AI? Doesn't that mean my files are uploaded?

PDF2Excel uses a built-in AI vision pipeline (Apache 2.0, ONNX-based) for scanned PDFs, but the models are bundled inside the app and run entirely on your CPU. Nothing is uploaded. There is no API call. The app is configured so that even the AI library cannot reach out to the internet. The free online version of this tool runs the same pipeline on a remote server; the desktop version deliberately does not.
