SimpleGantt’s VBA add-in needs macros. A button that does nothing can also indicate an installation or policy problem; check the file before changing Excel’s global settings.
Windows: trust the downloaded add-in #
- Close Excel and find the add-in file you downloaded from Python & VBA. Extract it from its ZIP first if needed.
- Right-click that file, select Properties, and look for Unblock on the General tab. If present, select it, click Apply, then OK.
- Open Excel again and confirm the add-in is selected under File > Options > Add-ins > Manage: Excel Add-ins > Go.

If your organization permits it, a dedicated folder containing only trusted add-ins can be added under Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Trusted Locations. Do not make your whole Downloads folder trusted. An organization policy may require your IT team to approve the add-in.
macOS #
In Excel, open Preferences > Security (the label can vary by version). Keep Disable all macros with notification selected, reopen the trusted add-in and approve its macro prompt. See Microsoft’s Mac macro guidance.
Still no response? #
Send support your Excel version, the add-in version, the button you clicked and any warning shown. Keep notification-based macro protection enabled; allowing every macro globally is not required.
