Yes. Chat Merge works in:
- Excel on Windows with Microsoft 365 or Excel 2021 and later.
- Excel on Mac with Microsoft 365 or Excel 2021 and later.
- Excel on the web in a current browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari).
Older versions such as Excel 2019 or 2016 cannot run it. Keep Excel updated: newer builds support the add-in platform best. No macros are involved, so nothing needs to be enabled in Excel’s security settings.
What is the same everywhere #
Loading your contacts, the message with fields, the preview, Open this chat, Open next chat and the status column work the same on every platform. By default chats open on WhatsApp’s chat page in your browser, which needs nothing installed.
What is Windows only #
- WhatsApp desktop app as the place to open chats. On Mac and the web, choose WhatsApp’s chat page or WhatsApp Web. See Choose where chats open.
- The hand-off to SendCommander, because SendCommander is a Windows app.
Platform notes #
- Excel on the web: the chat opens in a new browser tab. If your browser blocks it, allow pop-ups for Excel and click again, see Nothing opens when I click Open this chat. If the pane stays empty, reload the browser tab. Private windows and strict tracking protection can block the add-in’s storage; try a normal window.
- Excel on Mac: the chat opens in your default browser. If Excel cannot open the browser from the pane, the pane shows the chat link with a Copy link button; paste the link into your browser.
