What you see #
In Excel on Windows, a Microsoft Office window says An add-in is trying to open this application, with an Open button and a box to remember your choice.
Why it appears #
It is a safety prompt from Office, not from Chat Merge. It appears when an add-in asks Windows to start another program. Chat Merge does that in two cases:
- You chose WhatsApp desktop app under Open chats in in Settings, and you click Open this chat or Open next chat.
- You click Open in SendCommander to hand your list to the SendCommander app.
Office asks separately for each program.
What to do #
- Choose Open. The program starts with your message.
- Tick Always remember my choice before you choose Open, so Excel does not ask again.
If you do not choose Open, nothing opens. Click Open this chat again and choose Open this time.
If you would rather not see the prompt #
Open the menu at the top left, choose Settings and set Open chats in to WhatsApp’s chat page or WhatsApp Web. Those open in your browser. See Choose where chats open.
The prompt appeared but nothing opened #
Check that the WhatsApp app is installed on that computer, or that SendCommander is installed. If you are not sure, switch to WhatsApp’s chat page in Settings, which needs nothing installed. Still stuck? Contact support.
