When you pick a chart type or click Use selection, Deltaline reads the cells that are selected in the sheet at that moment and expands one cell to the table around it. It stops with a message when it finds nothing it can draw:
- “That selection has no numbers.” The block around the selected cell holds only text. Select a table with at least one number column. Numbers stored as text (often from an export, with a small green triangle in the cell) count as text; convert them to numbers first.
- “The selected cells are empty.” The selection is outside your data, often because clicking the chart frame left the selection somewhere else. Click a cell inside your data, then click Use selection again.
- Your data is on another sheet. Select it there first and come back to the chart, or open Edit and use Use current selection under Data.
- “Excel is still editing a cell.” A cell is still in edit mode. Press Enter or Esc in the sheet, then try again.
No data at hand? Click Try with sample data at the bottom of the empty chart frame: Deltaline writes a small sample table on the sheet and draws a chart from it.
Check whether a value is numeric #
| Cell value | Test in another cell | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 42 stored as a number | =ISNUMBER(A2) returns TRUE | Can be used as a numeric chart value. |
| 42 stored as text | =ISTEXT(A2) returns TRUE | Convert the source value to a number before retrying. |
Replace A2 with the cell you are checking. Alignment and number formatting alone do not prove its stored type.
