US and Canada toll-free numbers (+1 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, 888) can send SMS and MMS, and they skip the whole 10DLC brand-and-campaign registration. Instead they need a one-time toll-free verification: you tell Twilio who you are and what you send, Twilio submits it, and once approved the number gets solid throughput and far less filtering.

The catch #
An unverified toll-free number is heavily restricted and gets filtered quickly, so submit the verification before your first real campaign, not after. Approval usually takes a few business days. Toll-free also reads as a business number, not a local one; if local presence matters to your audience, a registered 10DLC number fits better.
