This guide takes you from installing AI Categorizer to your first sorted list. It takes about five minutes.
1. Install the add-in #
- In Excel on Windows, Mac or the web, go to Home > Add-ins (or Insert > Get Add-ins), search for AI Categorizer, and click Add.
- Click the AI Categorizer button on the Home tab to open the task pane.
2. Try the sample #
The first screen says: “Sort rows into your own categories. Insert a sample to see it work, or select the rows to sort.”
- Click Insert sample. You get a new sheet, AI Categorizer sample, with a month of bank lines and a small chart of accounts next to them.
- The pane selects both for you: the bank lines as the rows to sort (by their Description), and the chart of accounts as the categories, with the account name as the category, the chart’s Description column as the category descriptions and the account number copied next to each line.
- Check the estimate. It reads “24 rows need AI · 1 repeat is free · uses 24 credits · you have 100”: one bank line appears twice, and the repeat is free.
- Click Run. The results appear in new columns next to the bank lines: Category, Confidence, Status and Account no. (category).
Want to check the answers? Download the sample with its answer key, or see the expected category for every row in How accurate is it?
3. Sort your own rows #
Same steps with your own data. Select the rows to sort and tick the column that describes them, usually the description. Then select your category list, or type the categories. Sort rows into categories walks through every step, and Set up your categories explains the category options.
4. Check the credits before you run #
Before every run, the pane shows what it will cost, in this form:
“{n} rows need AI · {s} repeats and filled rows are free · uses {n} credits · you have {total}”
Your first 100 credits are free. When you need more, buy a credit pack, then open the menu (top left), go to Credits and keys and paste the license key from your purchase email. Credits and packs has the details.
5. Review the results #
Rows the AI is less sure about get the status Review and a light fill. Look at those first, then at the rows marked Other. Review results and set the threshold explains how.
Having trouble? #
The pane explains every problem in plain language, and the docs cover the common ones. If you are stuck, contact support.
