TL;DR: AI runs on your computer #
- Your questions and spreadsheet data go to local Ollama. XLlama has no cloud AI fallback.
- We do not receive your AI conversations. XLlama has no telemetry or automatic error uploads.
- Chats are saved on your PC. Uninstalling keeps them; you can delete chats in the app.
- Some features use the internet: license checks, optional update checks, downloads and links you open.
What does the AI see? #
Your question, model instructions and recent messages in the same chat. With Selected cells enabled, it also receives the attached cells and existing formulas. For large selections, choose Send all data, a clearly labeled sample, or sending without cells. Worksheet formulas use the cells you reference.
This processing happens through Ollama on your computer. XLlama supports only local connections and local models.
What is saved? #
XLlama saves chats, attached cell data, settings and cached formula answers locally. Very large full-data attachments are sent for one question and are not saved in full; only a short preview stays with your question and answer. Reattach the data for follow-ups. Chat files are not separately encrypted, so their privacy depends on your Windows account and device security. Windows protects stored license and Free usage records.
Where are the files?
Open %LOCALAPPDATA%\XLlamaDesktop\Data in File Explorer. Free usage also has a recovery record in your Windows user registry.
How do I remove my chats? #
Choose Delete in a conversation’s menu. Use Clear formula cache to remove saved formula answers.
New chat starts fresh without deleting earlier chats. Updating or uninstalling keeps your saved data. Anything you copied into a workbook stays in that workbook.
What uses the internet? #
- Licenses: with a saved key, XLlama sends the key, app version and a hashed device ID to our license server. The ID is based on your PC and Windows account names; the raw names are not sent. Free users without a key make no license requests.
- Updates: automatic checks are off by default. You can enable them or check manually. These checks do not send your chats or worksheet data.
- Downloads and links: the websites you visit receive normal connection information, such as your IP address. Our redirect links can record clicks under the website privacy policy.
- Manage account: clicking this sends the product name and your saved license key through our redirect to the account portal, so you do not need to type them again.
Windows, Excel, WebView2 and Ollama may also make their own connections independently of XLlama.
What about diagnostics and support? #
Diagnostics stay local. A copied report excludes license keys, prompts, worksheet contents and model names. It is not sent to us automatically.
If you contact support, we receive whatever you choose to share. Check screenshots and attachments before sending them.
Read the full XLlama privacy policy for details about licensing data, retention and your rights.
Unfinished questions are also saved locally so you can return to them. Drafts are not separately encrypted and are preserved when you uninstall. Clear a question or delete its chat to remove its draft.
