Setting up QuickText takes about 5 minutes, and you only do it once. QuickText sends your texts through your own phone using a free app called KDE Connect, which you install on both your PC and your phone.
Step 1: Install QuickText Desktop #
Get QuickText Desktop from the Microsoft Store and open it.
Step 2: Install KDE Connect on your PC #
Open the Your phone page in the left sidebar and click Get KDE Connect. Install it, then return to QuickText.
Step 3: Install KDE Connect on your phone #
Install the KDE Connect app on your Android phone from the Google Play Store. The Your phone page shows a QR code you can scan with your phone camera to open the right page.
Step 4: Connect both to the same wi-fi #
Your phone and PC must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Mobile data does not work, and guest networks often block devices from seeing each other.
Step 5: Pair your phone with your PC #
Open KDE Connect on your phone. On the Your phone page, your phone appears in the list. Click Pair next to it, then tap Accept in the KDE Connect app on your phone.
Step 6: Allow SMS on your phone #
Android asks once for permission to let KDE Connect send texts. Allow it. This is the one step your PC cannot check, so do not skip it.
Step 7: Pick your phone #
Click Use this phone next to your device to set it as your sending phone.
Step 8: Send yourself a test message #
On the Your phone page, enter your own number and send a test message. When it arrives as a normal text, your setup works.
Step 9: Add your contacts #
Open the Contacts page and import your people from a CSV or Excel file.
If a step does not work, click Check my setup on the Your phone page. It checks each part of the connection and tells you exactly what is missing.
