Besides the email, names, company and notes, a contact can hold any details you need, like Region, City or Customer number. These are custom fields. Every contact has the same fields; a field can be empty for some people.
Add a field #
- When you import: in Match your columns, pick New field for a column. The field gets the column’s name, like “Region”. See Import contacts from Excel or CSV.
- On one contact: open the person and click Add a field. SheetCourier asks “What should the new field be called? Every contact gets it, empty until you fill it in.” Type the name and click Add the field.
A field can’t be called like a detail SheetCourier already has: Email, First name, Last name, Full name, Company, Notes, Lists, Status, Last emailed or Unsubscribe.
On the Contacts page your fields are hidden at first, so the grid stays readable. Click Columns at the top right of the grid and tick the fields you want to see.
Use fields in your email #
In a mailing to a contact list, every field is a column you can insert, the same as a column of an Excel file. The columns are Email, First name, Last name, Full name, Company, Notes and then your own fields.
- Insert a field with Field on the Insert bar, or type it:
{{Region}}. - Add a word for people whose field is empty:
{{First name|there}}gives “Hi there” when the first name is missing.
More in Personalize with fields.
Use fields for tables and attachments #
Fields work everywhere a column of a file works:
- Each person gets their own rows of an Excel table: match a field like Region to the Region column of the table. See Send each person their own rows.
- Each person gets their own sheet: a field that holds the name of the sheet.
- A different file for each person…: a field that holds the file name. See Attach a different file for each person.
- The filter Only send to some people in step 1, for example only people where Region is North.
Fields can’t be renamed or deleted in SheetCourier 1.1.0. Choose names you are happy to keep, like the column names in your Excel file. If a mailing uses a field that its list doesn’t have, the Check step names it, so nobody gets an email with a gap.
