A mailing that uses an Excel file or a pasted list can save its people as a contact list. That is handy when the file was only ever a list of people and you would rather keep them in SheetCourier from now on.
Save the people #
- Open the mailing and go to step 1, Your list.
- Under the summary of how many people get the email, click the link Save these 5 people as a contact list (it shows your number).
- The import window opens at Match your columns, filled in from your list. Check what each column becomes. See Import contacts from Excel or CSV.
- In the last step, A new list named is filled in with the name of the mailing (or of the file). Change the name if you like, answer the duplicates question if SheetCourier asks it, and click the import button.
Only the people who get the email are saved: rows with no usable email address, people on your “Don’t email” list, rows your filter leaves out and duplicates are not part of the import. People who already got this mailing are saved too.
Use the new list for this mailing #
After the import, step 1 shows the notice Saved as a contact list: the people are in the new contact list now, and this mailing still uses your file or pasted list. To send this mailing to the contact list instead, click Use this list for this mailing.
Columns you didn’t import can’t be used in the email any more. If the email, an Excel table, an attachment or the filter uses one of them, SheetCourier does not switch. It says Saved, but this mailing keeps your list and names the column, for example “This mailing uses “Region”, which isn’t in the new contact list, so it keeps using your list for now.” Import that column too, or change the email first, then pick My contacts at the top of step 1.
If you imported a column under a new name, SheetCourier asks Change the fields in your email?: Change them and use the list updates the fields in your email and switches, Keep my list leaves everything as it was. When the switch works, the notice says This mailing uses your contacts now.
If you don’t click the button, the mailing keeps using your file or pasted list, and the contact list is there for other mailings. If you picked Don’t add to a list in the import, the people are saved to your contacts without a list, and the mailing keeps using your file.
Who already got this mailing is remembered by email address, so after the switch SheetCourier still knows who got it before. See Send a mailing again every month for the choice when you send it again.
